Passion became a Profession
Colonel (retd.) K K S Dadwal, the founder of Lajwanti Nursery has a passion for nurturing and rearing plants. During his long tenure in the army, a transferable job, he always maintained a well-manicured lawn, resplendent garden and a rich vegetable patch as an occupant of various government bungalows in various cantonments. He invariably won prizes every year in both the flower and vegetable garden category in the annual garden competitions.
On retirement from the army, he returned to the family home in Dharamshala and undertook the task of caring and maintaining the vast collection of plants acquired over the years. He moved to grafting and propagating. The increasing activities led to hiring of additional help and finally economics compelled him to transform his passion into a profession in 2009 by starting Lajwanti Nursery.

Lajwanti the plant, which is commonly known in English as touch me not is also the name of his late mother ‘Lajwanti Devi’. Col Dadwal has dedicated the nursery in the memory of his late Mother and thus in his own way has expressed his love and devotion towards her.

Spread over an area of more than 2 acres, Lajwanti Nursery has more than 500 varieties of plants and trees. Established in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges, the nursery provides ambient weather condition for the plants growth.
Lajwanti Nursery aspires to expand its portfolio in the field of high quality, hybrid plants export. We are constantly working towards growing and propagating indigenous herbs, fruits, medicinal and flowering plants. With 2 green houses already spread over a large area, we are planning to construct more in order to ensure supply of healthy plants throughout the year.
In addition we also aim to conduct tours of the nursery for school children to enlighten them and help them to imbibe a healthy and positive attitude towards the environment and generate a green value system.
